This is my miracle girl enjoying something I happily did as a child; stomping on crunchy autumn leaves.
We live in an inner city apartment and don’t get up close to nature anywhere near enough. I want her to learn about it first-hand and not just academically. I spent a lot of time outdoors as a child, digging works, picking up snails, walking through open fields and sploshing through the local billabong. There’s none of this in the city. Further childhood has become so regulated today due to fears, both real and imagined.
Technology can teach a lot but it’s never going to be the same as first-hand experience. There has to be a concerted effort in today’s high-tech world to get our kids outdoors and in touch with nature. Dare to get dirty. Not always easy for busy, logged in parents.
How do you balance the natural and technology in your family life?
